New designers pop up everyday and quite a few of them are undoubtedly talented. We’ve had our eyes on quite a few up and coming and established brands and we will be highlighting some of the major brands you need to know in the  series.

BNS: Why did you start your line?

When I started my brand in 1983, there was nothing like a line or starting a fashion label because we didn’t know at that time what a fashion label was. Fashion happened to be something I applied myself to. I’ve always been creative, I just chose fashion over art. When the opportunity came to go to tertiary, I enrolled for a fashion course which I did for six months. At that time it was apartheid era and after high school, I travelled the world for four years and when I came back to Africa went to Zimbabwe which is my birth place. That’s where the fashion bug began in me and I was inspired by the Zimbabwean independence.

BNS: Who is your favourite celebrity or influencer to work with?

I don’t have anyone that’s my favourite but I would like to dress Tina Turner. She’s such a hot woman. Her dance and voice move me and she has a personality that is very real. I’ve never dreamt of dressing anyone famous, it all came as the brand grew.

BNS: How would you describe your label?

If anywhere there was a beginning, it’s technical. I look at my work and try to find a technical solution.

BNS: What do you believe should be the foundation of every woman’s wardrobe?

The tightest and sexiest item in their closet that they can manage to put on and feel good and confident in it, no matter what size they are.

BNS: Who is the Clive Rundle woman?

She’s corporate, global and she’s a public figure not intrigued by fashion.

…I don’t plan the design or get inspired by walking around, it’s something that’s in me

BNS: Where do you get style inspiration?

We go back to technical. I don’t plan the design or get inspired by walking around, it’s something that’s in me. The fabric is the last application and at the same time it drives the whole collection.

BNS: Where can we purchase pieces from the brand?
